23 JulAre Wooden Storage Sheds A Necessity?

I would say that storage sheds are a necessity already. People like to buy a lot of things, even without thinking on where they are going to store them, then they do not realize that they do not have enough space at home to store them. A basement may provide the needed space, but it is only used for storage of old and unused belongings. Besides, the basement is too far away and too inconvenient to store tools and equipment that you regularly use outside of your house, not to mention that these tools and equipment are usually too heavy and too large to be carried down to the basement.

A storage shed will provide sufficient space for storage of tools and equipment as big as lawn mowers and many as camping tools like camping tents, lamps and torches, compasses, etc.. With a storage shed, you have a choice of the material – wood, metal or plastic. Wooden sheds are probably the most popular. Undeniably, wooden sheds make the most beautiful storage sheds. Most people though complain that wooden sheds are too expensive until they check out metal sheds and find out just how expensive sheds can really be.

People still insist, however, that despite the expensive purchase price, metal storage sheds are more durable than wooden sheds that tend to be more costly because they require repainting and repair after a while. Not known to many, metal sheds also require regular inspection and thorough cleaning for rust spots, dents and scratches. In fact, you have to be careful in choosing the location of your metal shed. You must put it in a location where it will not be scratched by heavy tools or equipment like mowers and bikes. Plastic storage sheds are usually chosen for their economical value, and considering the tough economy we are having these days, are turning into a popular choice.

A wooden shed may have an expensive upkeep just to maintain its great look, but a plastic shed also needs great care because it naturally cracks overtime and warps due to sun exposure. Once damaged, even just a small part of it, a plastic shed will be very unlikely to be able to restore to its original condition. Whereas with a wooden shed, just a shelf of frame may be replaced or repainted. Building a wooden shed, therefore, is not a bad choice. It is a beautiful choice, in fact. You can match the color of the paint of your house with your wooden shed. You can also use with your wooden shed the same shingles on the roof of your house. Over time, you may employ improvements you want like interior frames, shelving, bunk beds and work benches.

21 JulMaterials For Rock Garden Building

Often the stones of which the rock garden is to be constructed may be obtained locally; sometimes on the place itself. Under these conditions, we must usually take what is available, and make the best of it. But not all stones are equally appropriate for rock garden building.

“Sympathetic” Stones

If rock plants ask for bread and you give them a stone, they will be very well satisfied-if it is the right kind of stone. Some rocks, due to their character and texture, are termed “sympathetic” to plant life. This depends, primarily, upon their porosity-the capacity for absorbing and storing moisture, and thus encouraging the creeping, thirsty roots to hug the rock and follow its surface deep down into the soil.

If you have roamed through fields and woods, or have stones about your own place, you have undoubtedly observed the difference among them in this respect. Some stones have a smooth, close-grained surface as impenetrable as marble; others are so porous that they will almost drink water like blotting paper.

Neither extremely hard nor extremely soft stones are best for rock garden making; the former are not “sympathetic” to plant growth, and the latter are not practical because they so quickly disintegrate and crumble, often going to pieces in a single season when exposed to rains and frost action, although they may seem fairly substantial when put in place.

Types of Stone to Use

Hard, close-grained stones like granite are often used because they are easiest to get. If the pieces are irregular and with rough surfaces, as mined from a quarry, they will serve the appropriate purpose. Field stones or boulders, frequently found in places where there are glacial deposits, ground to smoothly rounded surfaces, are the least desirable.

Limestone or sandstone which shows a distinct grain or stratification, and obtainable in irregular blocks of varying sizes and shapes, is the most desirable. Field rocks, if not too small, are also brilliant, particularly if they have weather-beaten, or moss or lichen-covered surfaces.

Even in a small rock garden, it is well to have at least a few “old he-ones”-rocks which take a great deal of pushing and possibly some strong language to get into place; but which, once you get them where you want them, will give character to the entire planting.

They possess beauty and individuality no less than the plants with which they are to be associated. Japanese gardening is almost literally rock landscaping. In many of the wonderful compositions in Japanese gardening it is the plants, rather than the rocks, which are subordinated.

Tufa Stone is a volcanic rock, extremely ornamental both in form and texture, extraordinarily porous, light, easy to arrange, and in many ways desirable. Its cost, determined largely by freight charges, is not prohibitive for use in a small rock garden, especially where a picturesque or Japanesque effect is desired. It does not fit so well into a natural rock garden and looks best with a garden fountain. This material is handled by many concerns which specialize in rock plants.

Other Materials

Rough slate, which is suitable for many garden uses, is best omitted from the rock garden, unless possibly for the making of paths, steps, stone seats, or similar features that employ patio statuary, like the Williamsburg Collection and where there is no reason for not using a type of stone different from that employed for building the garden itself.

Old weathered logs of wood are sometimes employed in the construction of steps, or to hold an embankment in place. One serious objection to wood is that it decays quickly; but in appearance, if chosen with good taste, is satisfactory.

20 JulFinancial Facts About The Garden Studio

The hard lesson that the real estate crisis has taught many people is not to bite off more than they can chew but live within their means. Therefore, many of us that had been saving for a down payment on a mortgage loan changed their minds and decided to buy something more convenient. The real estate market came up with a lucky discovery for this class of potential investors: the garden building. It is nothing more than a mobile improvement to your own house and it is usually placed in your garden. The word mobile signifies that it can be moved anywhere you please. Moreover, it can serve any purpose you want.

The average building costs of such a construction range from 7,000 to 12,000 euros, depending on the covered area of your garden building. Those who find these prices a bit stiff should take into consideration that they cover the cost of whole bespoken building. In addition to that, installation, labor and materials are none of your business and delivery is ensured by the producer. If you also count other included benefits such as full wiring, lighting and insulation, interior plastering, painting and finishing, fitting a good quality floor, exterior painting and cladding so as to fit with the surroundings, you will understand why the prices above are justified. With such features, your garden studio is credited with over 40-year life expectancy, which makes that its quality-price ratio be positive.

When deciding to invest in a garden studio, wise people usually compare building costs per square meter for a garden studio with those for a new house. They also conduct some risk assessment operations related to loans. The current economic context draws the balance in favor of buying a garden building than a house or apartment. It is safer and more economical.

The garden studio is a very versatile product which can be ascribed a lot of functions. Think about the advantages of turning it into your office. Then you are rid of rental costs with an office in town and the money you usually spend on transportation. Furthermore, your workplace affairs would not mingle with private matters and space.

Whatever its function, your new garden studio is certain to add value to your home. Your old house could get a new touch of picturesque and beauty from the inclusion of a garden building. To say nothing of the fact that it may attract new clients or customers. Change your place, change your luck!

There is a general conviction that winter gardens are (because of the price and their nature) for snobs. Of course, this is not true – setting up the winter garden, is slightly different in its price from putting a few pots with flowers in the living room, but if we schedule its look well and take care of this garden it will surely give the best is has – a wonderful climate and unique nature.

Usually every house has its so called garden space – the most grass is growing there, we have probably a set of benches, sometimes a grill. For more affluent people with larger garden space to use there is also a possibility of making an orangery. Orangery is usually a separate building made of strong glass such as it is in the greenhouses. It offers more space in the middle, and a possibility of having an exotic plants (that’s why its also called a different name – hothouse). But the cost of it is not small due to the need of constant heating.
