15 AprHow To Study For A Test

I am frequently asked, “How do I study for tests?” This question actually puts the “cart before the horse” because the efficient way to study for tests is to do your homework on time, ask questions in class, and learn information as it is taught, not just memorize the night before. There are easy ways to do these tasks, but this article will assume that you have a test tomorrow and you need some help…now!

How the Brain Works

To maximize your study time, it is helpful to know how your brain works. The most significant thing your brain does to learn new information is to connect new knowledge to concepts you already know. For example, you must know about earthquakes before you can understand the Richter Scale. The connection process is vital! When you struggle to learn new information, it is usually because you are not able to make a connection to something you already understand. If you have experienced a moment when something finally “clicked,” that was the moment that your brain made a connection.

Connections help you learn new information, but visual images help you recall it. Visual images are powerful memory-enhancing tools because brains tend to think in images. Pictures, graphs, maps, and symbols help your brain see new concepts, see the relationship between concepts, and give you an image to “connect” new information.

Next, your brain best remembers “firsts” and “lasts;” the first few sentences you read, the last few comments your teacher said, etc. For example, as a teacher is lecturing in class, it is common to listen to the first few minutes before drifting into daydreams. Eventually, you sense that the lecture is about to end, so you “snap” back into attention and catch the last few sentences. Because of this, you can learn as much in three, 30-minute study sessions as you can in three straight hours of studying.

Finally, your brain must be healthy to be efficient. Proper sleep, nutrition, and hydration help you think clearly while you are studying and while you are taking your test.

So, how DO you study for that test?

** Action Plan *

Step 1: Know the test format. Ask your teacher or call a friend, but you do need to know if you are preparing for multiple choice or essay questions.

Step 2: Collect all homework, worksheets, handouts (You kept all of these, didn’t you?), and notes covering the tested material. Create two groups of papers by separating quizzes and graded assignments.

Step 3: Open your text-book to the tested sections and “read” the pictures, graphs, and diagrams; look at each one, read the captions, and ask yourself, “What is this picture? Why is it here? What did I learn about this in school?” These connection questions refresh your memory from lectures and class activities and help your brain “attach” new information from your notes and handouts.

Step 4: Take a short, 2-4 minute study break every 30 minutes. Get a drink, do a few jumping jacks, or grab a short snack to refresh your brain.

Step 5: Review your packet of quizzes and graded assignments. These are gold! Pay close attention to all questions you originally had wrong. Figure out the correct answers and make sure you understand your errors. Read all other questions, notes, and diagrams on these papers. As you read each problem or paragraph, stop and think of a connection to one of the visuals from your textbook.

Step 6: Create a 5

11 JunThree Affirmations to Help Bring Wealth and Abundance Your Way

One of the best ways to help bring wealth and abundance in your life is to use affirmations. These are normally short sentences that you repeat on a regular basis. Whilst affirmations are good around the clock, some of the best times are first thing in the morning (to set the tone for the day) and last thing at night (to keep your subconscious on track whilst you sleep). Here are three affirmations that you can use at these times – or any other times – to keep you on track to attracting more wealth and abundance into your life.

I live in an abundant universe

This one is great as it reinforces the idea of the universe being abundant with absolutely everything. We all know that the universe is incomprehensibly big – even Zaphod Beeblebrox sometimes had issues although his ego normally got the better of things – but sometimes we still concentrate on the small details. In turn, this can stop the universe from helping us to live an abundant life as easily as we should be able to. So repeating this simple affirmation can help get it into our minds that there is lots of everything and that we can have our share without limiting or cramping other people.

I allow myself to attract money

It’s possible that this affirmation seems a bit “woolly” at first but take a step back and think about it. You are actually giving yourself the permission that you need in order to be able to attract money into your life.

Quite often we hold ourselves back because we feel that we’re not worthy enough to be rich. We sometimes also put a negative spin on being rich and actually start to repel money and other abundance rather than attract them.

The phrasing of this affirmation is deliberately such that it’s simply allowing us to attract money. This then lets our subconscious mind take over without any of the negative baggage that money so often brings with it if we give it that permission.

I accept prosperity and abundance into my life

This third affirmation is slightly stronger than the first two and, as such, you may decide to hold off from using it for a few days until your mind has started to become accepting of the fact that you’re living in an incredibly abundant universe and that the process of attracting wealth has actually started.

Because, make no mistake about it, repeating these three seemingly simple affirmations on a regular basis will start to change your life for the better.

They’ll chip away at your previous mindset, eating away at the edges of your previous limiting beliefs.

The good news about using affirmations is that you don’t really have to do anything other than repeat them on a reasonably regular basis. Your subconscious mind will then automatically leap to the conclusion that this is what you truly desire and will set its course to deliver wealth and abundance into your life without much – if any – further intervention on your part.

23 FebWhich is better: term or permanent life insurance?

The biggest financial decision you are likely to make is buying a home, closely followed by less expensive must-haves like a vehicle. But the one deal you should aim to get right is the decision on life insurance. This is the difference between leaving your dependents with an adequate amount of cash to see them through the times of economic hardship after your income is lost, and leaving them with nothing. In this, the decision on term as against permanent insurance is the key. Put the wrong key in the lock and you open a door into real financial hardship. So what’s wrong with term insurance? Think of this as like a bet. If you die within the term, your dependents are the winners. If you prove healthy and live too long, you lose the premiums you paid and your dependents get nothing. Now, when it comes to permanent insurance, this builds up a cash value. The longer you have the policy in place, the more valuable it comes as the premiums you pay attract investment returns. During your own life, you can take some of this money back or borrow using the fund as collateral. When the sad day finally comes, the benefits are paid out to your dependents less whatever drawings or borrowings you have made.

From these short sentences, you will immediately suspect the other difference between the products. Term life insurance is the cheap option. It gives you security in the amount of the benefits for the number of years you select. If you buy one term policy after another, the premiums are higher each time because your life expectancy is less on each renewal. Permanent insurance premiums are higher because a percentage of what you pay is invested on your behalf to generate the cash value. So your fund receives the benefit of the interest, dividends and other returns the investments generate. This makes the total of the cash value the key factor. Do you want a higher rate of return on the premiums? This can be for your own benefit should there be an emergency during your life. Or it can build up over the years for your dependents. If the answer is yes, you must be prepared to pay more to start off the policy – the first year’s premiums often disappear into a black hole representing set-up costs and the selling agent’s commission. But the amount you pay stays the same throughout the lifetime of the policy. So, with inflation, what starts out a struggle slowly grows easier to pay.

The real problem is the uncertainty of the future. Who knows how inflation may affect different aspects of life. What may be cheap now, may be expensive tomorrow and vice versa. So here are a few simple rules. If all you want is cover over the next few years (no more than ten), get life insurance quotes for a term policy. Ten years is not a long enough period of time to build up a worthwhile cash value. Estimate what benefits might be needed, e.g. your daughter will need $50,000 to cover her college tuition fees, and the total will set the amount of the insurance. If you are looking at a period of at least twenty years, you should think seriously about permanent insurance. Again, get life insurance quotes but you should also take advice on the different types of policy available and create or review your estate plan. Between ten and twenty years is a gray area and whichever way you decide is not going to be wrong.
